Braces Alternatives?

I’d like to know alternatives to traditional braces. I’m twelve, have Medicaid insurance (doesn’t cover the full cost of regular braces anyway) and here are my dental problems:
-My top left (my view) incisor grew in front of my other teeth and the tooth to its left is being pushed back.
-My bottom left incisor is about a quarter of a millimeter out. I’ve pushed it into its place but I’m worried about it going anywhere.
-I have a 1.5 millimeter crossbite and a 2-3 millimeter overbite. My orthodontist says it’s okay.
The reason I’m asking is because my orthodontist is fairly awful (won’t listen to any of my questions, refuses to tell me any of my options, refuses to even estimate my treatment time, refuses to do anything but complain about me, etc. etc.). She offers Invisalign, but she won’t tell me anything about it (just says I’m too young, although she hasn’t looked at anything but my front 8 teeth). I have 3 second molars with 1 coming in. Please help.

I’d suggest to get a second opinion. You can find great dentists
and orthodontists on the orthodontist plan network with Orthodontist4Less.
This could be an alternative to Medicaid as well.

Sounds like you should get a new orthodontist. I got braces when I was 12 and my bro got braces when he was about 10! So I don’t think your too young.

Invisalign can correct minor orthodontic problem (like overcrowding, misaligned teeth…) Always remember that Invisalign do work but with certain limitations. As you describe earlier you do have 2 rows of teeth on your left incisors? I don’t think some will consider Invisalign.
If you are not getting a strait forward answer from your orthodontist, go ask for another referral. Remember you’re going to be stuck with this orthodontist for months even years. Why suffer?, you still have the chance to back out now.
    GOOD LUCK

  • google it. but being twelve i think your options might be limited. but i dont think you can be “too young” for invisalign. you could try going to a different orthodonist or just get an appointment with someone who offers invisalign to see if you are eligible.

  • At the age of 12, you are not a candidate for Invisalign, you have to have all of your adult teeth completely in to start with. If I were you, I would have a parent take you for a consultation with more than one orthodontist. Go to one that takes medicaid and one that does not to see if that has any bearing on your treatment plan. Most of them in our city do the consults for free, your area may be different. You sound like you have really paid attention and know a lot about your teeth. I disagree that a 1.5 mm crossbite is “okay” for a 12 year old. If you were 52, I would agree. Traditional braces are usually cheaper than Invisalign, and you can also get clear or tooth colored porcelain brackets now so they are not as noticeable. And if you did get traditional braces, you wouldn’t be the only 12 year old out there with them. And you would more than likely have them off before 9th grade. Good luck.
