Orthodontics Defined
Orthodontics may be the specialty of dentistry that's concerned using the study and treatment of malocclusion (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic therapy can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal using the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as "dentofacial orthopedics". Orthodontic therapy can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the general appearance of patients' teeth. Nevertheless, you will find orthodontists who work on reconstructing the whole face rather than focusing exclusively on teeth. Therapy is also frequently prescribed for practical reasons for example providing the patient having a functionally improved bite (occlusion).
I remember the day before I was going to get braces on and i was scared as hell. When they apply the braces it is pain free although it does feel a little strange. Your mouth will feel full and you will not be used to it. You will be used to them after about 4-5 days. Eating will be painful for the first few days. 9 months later, i still have braces and i’m getting them off this july and i cannot wait to get them off. When you get yours off completely depends on your mouth structure. I only needed them for about a year. Just remember to take motrin or tylenol
When you first get them they kinda hurt- but it’s more the fact they’re uncomfortable- but then you get totally used to it.
It depends on your teeth on how long you’d need them for, it’s usually about 18 months. Tightening doesn’t really hurt, i go to the orthodontist like every 6 weeks. It’ll be totally worth it in the end, it’s better spending a couple of years sorting out your teeth now, and then you can have gorgeous teeth for the rest of your life.
1.yes,when you get hit, or after tightening.
2.for the first month, but after that you forget you have them.
3. no sure, but mine cost 4,000
4. maybe like 3 years; 2 and 1 half
5.you take one to see if you need them, and to get a plan.
if you need teeth pulled, that would be your 2nd trip, but to the dentist. Then if you need spacers, that would be your 3rd trip. then you get braces! after that every 6 weeks.
6.not when you get them tightened, but about an hour after.
7. i have had them for like 4 months, and i already know they will pay off, so definitely yes!
well…if i say wearing braces not hurt at all, i think it’s a lie…it’s hurt and ache a bit when the wire have to be tighten. but the pain is still tolerable and will cease in 3 or 7 days after your visit.
if you have an overbite, then the dentist must repair your teeth profile and pulled the teeth backward, and this part is a bit more…what to say???…ache???yeah… n_n’ but relax…it’s still tolerable…
with an overbite profile and slight gap in your teeth, i think it will take 2 years or more…it also depends on your determination and your visit. i suggest that if you already decided to do it, you have to be responsible and never miss your time to visit your dentist once in a month, because its very important to control the movement of your teeth.
and sometimes the braces feels a bit weird and make you lazy to brush your teeth, but if you wear braces, you have to paying more attention to your oral heath.
it definitely will pay off…don’t worry…you’ll have a beautiful smile after that!no more half hearted smile! n_n
i hope you do well in getting the braces.
have a nice day.

i just got braces about 2 days ago and i was sooo scared! i was crying the night b4 becasue i was so nervous
Getting the braces on DO NOT HURT at ALL. it just feels like getting a cleaning at the dentist. afterwords, well yes they will ache but not nearly as bad as i thought… the wires could poke your cheeks and that is when u use wax and numbing gel. just take some pain reliever for tooth pain
Yes they feel a little weird… like there is too much in ur mouth lol… i am not quite used to them but people say you get used to how they feel.
idk how much they will cost… it varies from place to place… mine were about 3,000 dollars? maybe?
i have an overbite also and my ortho said they would be on about 16 months
i am sure it will pay off!
good luck!
don’t worry!
they hurt for the first few days but you will get used to them. it should take 1 year and a half to 4 years. it definitly pays off but you have to take good care of them.
They don’t hurt to put them on
They ONLY hurt when the tighten them
They are on for 2-years or more
You visit the orthodontist about once a month
Yeah they will pay off
It took a year for me last year to have a gap closed (adult braces). When I was a teen, it took longer to correct an underbite. I think 2 years is pretty typical overall. Do keep up with brushing and even doing flossing one tooth at a time (FlossFish is one way to do it).
