I have a crack in my lower retainer just on the front side one tooth toward the middle. It fits fine but I'm worried about my lower shifting. The crack is from the bottom to the top on the front side but not on the inside. should i be worried?

You could always call up your orthodontist if you have questions. They're usually pretty good about answering questions you have.
The receptionist is right, though. It's like getting a dramatic hair cut; you need a little time to settle into it before you really get used to it, and not being in school helps a bit 'cause you get a chance to settle into your new look before showing other people.

Well usually braces take a little more than 10 minutest to get put on. Mine took about 45 but call your orthodontist because they are usually very friendly about that. It probably means they will fit you for BRACKETS. I just realized that. Brackets go around usually a molar for some braces or other orthodontic appliances. I had brackets for an expander but not on my braces because they are different braces. I would call but it is probably brackets. Good Luck!!!!

My daughter had her impressions taken but then needed to have a couple of teeth out before the braces were fitted.
If you don't need teeth taking out (which your dentist does not the orthodontist by the way) it might be done but it took longer than 10 minutes to fit it for the first time.
Could be that you wont be fitted but it'll be worth the wait in the end.

Hi Sapphire
from what you have written it does sound like your functional appilances will be fitted at your next appt as fit tba refers to fitting a tba appliance

they put spacers in everyone, even if your teeth are normal. it's just so that the back ring of the braces can fit onto the tooth. normally the most your put between your teeth is floss and little things like that and, in case you haven't seen them, those metal rings are a bit thicker than a piece of floss (but don't worry it's not much thicker) with spacers you can't eat sticky candy and overly chewy foods because otherwise you might pull them out accidentally or eat them. my cousin went through about 8 of them before they put on his braces, but it doesn't hurt much if they fall out. your teeth may feel a bit weird and slightly sensitive when they first put in the spacers and then the braces but it's just because your teeth are being moved and it's not what usually happens, but eat a whole bunch of ice cream and smoothies and stuff and you'll get used to it after a while. it took me about a week or so.

Most hospitals have dental clinics that charge far less. Try calling your nearest hospital and ask the operator to connect you to the dental clinic. The doctors who are training are usually supervised by experienced dentist.
