Does Anyone Have Braces, I Am Thinking Of Getting Some For My Daughter.?

I want to get my 9 year old invisalign braces, are they expensive? I have blue cross/blue shield and state aid. I am a single parent and willing to work as hard as I have to to get her teeth straight and the gp in the front closed (she has her adult teeth and the gap is still huge). Are they expensive? Does insurance cover some of the cost? Do I need a referral to and orthodontist? My dentist doesn’t seem to care about my concern for my daughters teeth and my concerns regarding the spaces and crookedness.

Invisalign is a form of orthodontic treatment that is generally reserved for individuals who has finished most of their facial growth (adults and older adolescents).
How it works is – the orthodontist will take a special PVS impression and send it to Invisalign. The company will then construct a series of customized trays – you wear a set of trays (upper/lower) full time for 2 wks at a time then you switch to the next time. However, in your 9 yr old’s case – traditional braces would be more appropriate.
But to answer your question – Invisalign tx is generally more expensive than traditional orthodontic treatment because Invsalign charges the orthodontist a hefty lab fee and in turn, they have to pass on those charges to you. For an adult comprehensive Invisalign case – depending on the area and office, it will probably be easily 5-6 thousand plus. Traditional braces (depends on length/type of treatment) will be anywhere from 3 thousand to 6+ thousand.
You do not need a referral to an orthodontist – just ask your family or friends for referrals. If not, check out: http://www.braces.org and look up an orthodontist near your area.
Overall, orthodontists usually do free consults so make sure you understand what they are saying to you. As with everything in life – there are different qualities of orthodontists so make sure you feel comfortable with your orthodontist and he/she is in tuned with YOUR chief complaint. Also, depending on the needs of your daughter – the treatment time may vary as she is still rather young and I believe (unless she is a very mature dentally) – she still has some “baby” molars. Finally, some orthodontists won’t take certain insurance/state aid – so make sure you call and check w their offices 1st before you go in. Overall, if you self pay (with insurance help) – orthodontic offices will usually put you on a reasonable payment plan – just make sure you pay on time.

I have blue cross too. Insurance does cover about 80% of the cost. But depending on your plan like mine..there is a limit..They will only pay $1,500 per year.. So if the braces cost $3,000 they will cover half.
They have low income dental practices and also they do have dental schools or colleges that you can go to and get it for basically for free espeically children. The class gets a lesson and you get free dental.
I think braces are important to ones self esteem, don’t give up because they are important if you have teeth that need some help. They are expensive, however, alot of places let you pay payments which helps out a great deal. State aid usually helps pay for them. Don’t give up and keep trying to figure out how to get them. Maybe you could find another dentist if that one isn’t that interested in helping.
