For The Third Time, Dentists & Orthodontists Please Answer?

ive asked like a million retainer questions, but here goes. i wear top and bottom clear retainers (like invisalign) and the edge is long and curls out in some places, like behind my top left molars. can i trim them and with what? what precautions should i take? thank you much.

  • it pricks your gums and cheeks right? i wouldent trim them. i would wait to see the dentist them ask him. but for now just put some wax that you use for braces on the tips. should soften it up
hope i get best answer ^_^

i think if they are uncomfortable and not that shape for a reason then theres no harm in cutting them i would make sure there are no sharp edges though because that will really make your mouth sore and also they are there to keep your teeth from moving back out of place so cutting off the stray edges wont hurt at all i would imagine. You can always go to your authodontist and get a new mould fitted too my sister lost hers about 5 times and they just made her new ones.

the reason you are not getting any answers is that you are limited to 999,999 retainer questions on Y/A. You time is UP little girl.
Also, where did you GET your retainer, from a Cracker Jack box? If not, take the question back to the dentist where you got them.
Next week I’m gonna be asking the folks here on Y/A about that large mole growing in the crack of myass. How do you clean the wax accumulation off from around it?

If you’ve had to ask 3 times for a good answer you’d probably be better off calling the dentist /orthodontist who fitted you in the first place.
Edit: I agree with ITguy… “If you break it, you’ll have to pay hundreds to fix it.” If they trim it for you then they are resposible to replace it if it breaks in their care.

you should never cut or trim your retainers yourself! you might mess thm up and also they’re so expensive and it’s a risk. take them to your orthodontist or your dentist. they will trim them with high speed hand pieces and do it professionally. don’t mess with them!
    p.s.
i am not a dentist or orthodontist, but i am a dental assistant and have had patients mess up their retainers by doing this.

I would deffinently have your orthodontist do it, If you damage it they are pretty expensive to repair or replace. But if you must i would use sand paper or something to smooth it out. I do not advise doing that though.

Both of those professionals would tell you to go in to the office and have them trim them with the proper tool. If you break it, you’ll have to pay hundreds to fix it.

I am not an orthodontist or dentist. But may I sugest to go to YOUR orthodontist and have them trim it for you? Because I know that at my ortho. they do that for you. So that you dont have to worry about messing it up.

I’m willing to bet there aren’t many Dentists or Orthodontists on here. You need to call YOUR Dentist or Orthodontist and ask them before you even consider messing with your braces.

  • nursebek

My orthadontist did it for me.A dentist is for your teeth and orthadontists help with your braces..

  • Ally

I wouldn’t not mess around with your teeth. if you think your braces aren’t right, get a second opinion.

orthodontists are there for that, dont try it urself, or u may spoil it

  • ahmadhas

why dont you just call your dentist and orthodontist and ask

  • Dr. Bob

You have gotten lots of good advice above. As a real orthodontist, I recommend you contact the doctor who provided you with your retainers and ask him/her to make the necessary adjustments……
