We don’t have nearly enough information to even give you an order of magnitude estimate. You could be looking at $100,000 or well over a million. There are many things that drive the cost of a house. #1 is location. Land can be expensive, depending upon where you are.
Preparing the land for building can be expensive. You have to utilities close by or you will pay to get them installed. Since you want the power the electric co. can charge you to run the lines to your house. Same for phone, cable, water, natural gas, etc. Lots in subdivisions usually have this stuff provided and that is why lots in a subdivision are more expensive. Live too far out in the country and you could be looking at a well for water and a septic system for sewer.
Square footage can be used as an approximation for building costs, but it isn’t exact. Have lots of turns and angles in the house and it will cost more to build. Same with roof lines. Lots of features is a lot more cost. Quality of stuff going into the house matters too. Nice cabinets, nice flooring, etc., costs more money. This goes the same for workmanship. High quality costs money.

ps – Bubbles has no clue about bricks. New bricks don’t have toxins in them. They don’t use old bricks in new houses. They still build houses out of bricks… Yeesh, some people…
pps – Any housing market I have ever dealt with a pre-existing house is cheaper. Always. Want it new and want it your way and it’s more expensive.

Depend on where you live… in NJ that could be an $800,000 home. Go the the yahoo real estate section search your area for NEW homes only and see where the price line up. I know you want a custom home but it will give you and idea of what you’re looking at.
Family room and living room can be the same thing.
FYI- New brick has toxin in it that cause cancer- due to the pollution in the clay- which is why they don’t build sold brick homes anymore. They have to use recycled brick which is very $$$. Most places just have a brick front or brick facing.
My father works for a company that build house- and they don’t use new bricks. Think about it- we pollute and pollute our earth and the bricks are made of clay. A friend of mine works for the state and she is doing a study on this now. It won’t be long before new bricks are not allowed in new construction or they will be limited on how many they can use. I personally won’t take the chance.

depends on too many variables (where you live the cost of local labor the size of the house in finished sq footage etc)
go to a local builder and ask them – they love to give you info for free because then you might use them as your builder – also depends on how fancy you want the interior (oak cabinets? hardwood floors or tile? cheap or nice carpet? etc)
go see a builder – they have floor plans you can look at too (to get idea’s) and no I wouldn’t leave out a living roomo for future resale value – who’d buy a house without a living room? The avg family has and wants one PS brick might cost more than wood – ask

well where i live it’s 100.00 per square feet. and building is a whole lot cheaper than buying a house, plus, you don’t have to start making payments until it is finished! Yes that is a very bad idea, if you aren’t going to have a living room! Would you buy a house, that didn’t have a living room!? Remember when selling a house, you’re selling to the general public and not to your conditions, on what you want them to want. And besides, most people who are looking for a house to buy, want 2 bathrooms, a nice living room but if there is a basement, would be nice if it was finished. first floor laundry, because who likes toting the laundry up and down from the basement! But if you had to, the “Family room, could be labeled as Living room, when you goto sale it.
who are you looking to buy from? If you look around, you’ll find builders, who already have set floor plans, that you can customize and will have the base price right there.

It all depends on your location. Many states have lower construction cost than others.
Say the difference between a house in Fairfield, IA verses Los Angeles, CA…it depends on the value of property in the surrounding area.
Call some of your local home construction companies or contractors to see what the going rate is per sq. foot for 1 story home.
