Orthodontics Defined
Orthodontics may be the specialty of dentistry that's concerned using the study and treatment of malocclusion (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic therapy can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal using the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as "dentofacial orthopedics". Orthodontic therapy can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the general appearance of patients' teeth. Nevertheless, you will find orthodontists who work on reconstructing the whole face rather than focusing exclusively on teeth. Therapy is also frequently prescribed for practical reasons for example providing the patient having a functionally improved bite (occlusion).
If you need braces and can afford them, then by all means have the work done. This is something that you will never regret doing and if you don’t have the orthodontic work, you will be reminded every time you glance in the mirror or brush your teeth. Believe me, years from now you will be kicking your self.
The prices you mentioned are some what higher than the south eastern area. You can check with other orthodontist for their prices just by calling around.
As for which one to get, that really depends on you. The Invisalign is more comfortable to wear and causes less irritation to the tissue during treatment. Their only draw back is the price is some what higher. The traditional braces work well, but usually when a patient can use the Invisalign, we prefer to go that route because of less oral irritation.
Additional information: The time it takes with either varies on just how much movement is needed, but Invisalign works just as fast as the traditional braces. The trays are worn all the time with the exception being during eating. As for a bad taste, I’ve not had any complaints about that. Actually, the Invisalign patients have much better hygiene because there are no brackets and bands to work around during brushing and flossing and they are able to floss with ease which helps keep the tissue healthy. Patients who wear the Invisalign never have swollen, bleeding or irritated gum tissue like the traditional orthodontic patient has. I’ve worked with both types of orthodontic appliances and found most patients prefer the Invisalign over traditional braces due to the benefits I’ve described. Discuss your options with the orthodontist, I’m sure he will be glad to discuss any questions you may have.
braces. invisalign is disgusting when you take it out. or if you drink something you can tell. it just doesn’t look good.
I recently got braces and I am 22. I was worried that having braces would make me look too young since I work in a very conservative field. (oil industry) Anyway, I was not a candidate for Invisalign. So, I had clear braces put on my top row and the metal ones on the bottom. Clear braces are a little more expensive than the metal ones but they are worth it. Most people do not notice that I have braces until I point it out or until after they have stared at me for a while and they notice the metal wire on them. You can’t even see them in pictures which is great. I had metal put on the bottom because, let’s face it, how many people really just can see your bottom row of teeth unless every time you smile you flash them. It was my way of saving a little money by having metal put on the bottom. They are not that bad at all. I know the cost of living in California is way more expensive than here in Texas but for me to have my braces put in it cost me about $3500 but the average for braces is between $3000 and $4500. I know that Invisalign is more expensive here. It ranges between $4500-$6000. Hope that helped.
I just did a research on the same thing because I have a kinda similar question. Everybody recomends traditional metal braces; since it’s faster and more accurate…plus, they say the Invisalign can have an unpleasant taste in your mounth and it’s not completely invisible… I don’t have a personal experience YET but I’ve already asked around and possibly going for braces myself…..
they are very expensive, that’s what i know of. I think you should get regular braces, i heard they come in faster, i really don’t know. I got regular braces and it was prettty painful, believe me, you can’t eat anything for a week!
I did regular braces at age 52 (last year)! It was kind of fun to see people’s reactions, but it was always positive and I’m so glad it did it to close a gap between my lower front teeth. Invisalign can’t always correct every problem, especially if it involves jaw realignment/bite issues – I’m told they’re best for minor teeth straightening. And yes, I’ve heard that up close, other people see your saliva. My braces in Arizona cost about $4,000.
