Orthodontics Defined
Orthodontics may be the specialty of dentistry that's concerned using the study and treatment of malocclusion (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic therapy can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal using the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as "dentofacial orthopedics". Orthodontic therapy can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the general appearance of patients' teeth. Nevertheless, you will find orthodontists who work on reconstructing the whole face rather than focusing exclusively on teeth. Therapy is also frequently prescribed for practical reasons for example providing the patient having a functionally improved bite (occlusion).
Invisalign are a course of plastic clear aligners that are change at regular intervals, it is a good system but best used for minimal tooth alignment. If you have a severe case of over crowded teeth invisalign would not be suitable. They are about £4,000 for upper and lower arch, very similar price to traditional braces. There is also the option of lingual braces now, which are brackets on the back side of the teeth and therefore not visible.
I enquired recently and was told it cost £2000.00 per set, that is £2000.00 for upper and £2000.00 for lower. Unfortunaley the dentist could not use the system because he said I had too many old fillings.
Not many dentists are trained to carry out this work but when it can be used it appears successful but expensive.
I finished my last set of invisaligns about a year and a half ago. I paid $4,000.00 but that was over 3 years ago so the price may change. I was very impressed with them. I was 25 when I first had them and did not want the “metal mouth” (LOL) at my age and the invasalign was perfect. I would highly recommend them.
