Orthodontist Question…10 Pts?

my dentist reccomended that i get braces or invisalign(after he found out i wasnt fond of braces)
my teeth were “crowded” and i had an overbite….so im a candidate for invisalign.
but he said i have to go to an ORTHODONTIST!
my worry is……even if my teeth are aligned after i use this method..the shape of my teeth will still be “rigid” and “uneven”
do orthodontists do some cosmetic bonding or do i have to go back to a cosmetic dentist?
that would be a hassle :(

I know of no orthodontists who do cosmetic bonding. They occasionally might reshape a tooth by grinding it a little but that is limited. My experience is that the orthodontist will put the teeth and roots in a stable aesthetic position and the cosmetic dentist or whomever you choose reshapes the crowns with cosmetic bonding to give you the most attractive smile. Bonding after orthodontics is either done because the teeth do not have a normal shape or there is a space that can only be closed by bonding.
Sorry but it seems you must see two dentists.

I am personally am not a big fan of invisialign I have doctors have to deal with angry patients bc the results were not was not what was expected. Traditonal braces are a lot less expensive and very predicatable. If you do have cracked or jagged teeth you may need to have them restored after orthodontic treatment for ultimates esthethic, but you should have a consult with you orthodontist and you general dentist to go over the pros and cons of the procedures and what to expect in the long term, ask them about the life span of the restorations.
so to answer you questionthe orthodontist might do some basic recontouring but if your teeth are jagged then it will be done by a general dentist.
