Teeth Gap: Confused About Options?

Friends,
I am 27, Male. I have gap in my front teeth. I have consulted a orthodontics doctor. It was very basic examination. I was asked to get the X-rays and Models ( which cost around $400).
Secondly, my insurance doesn’t have ortho coverage and they told me treatment would cost as high as $5000. I have tried to get ortho coverage added to my insurance; looks like it was not possible with my existing group insurance.
Now, I am wandering around with the following questions ?
1. Is it really possible to get gaps closed at 27 ?
2. Are there any suggestions about the type of the treatment (should be inexpensive, since I can’t afford $5000 )?
3. Anyways, doctor said he would decide about treatment plan after the X-rays (spending like $400 on this).. Not sure what Doctor would say afterwards.
4. What would be the best possible solution to this problem with the given constraints.
Thanks.

General Questions About Financing Elective Surgery?

Okay, I want to get a maxillofacial procedure done on my jaw, and my insurance won’t cover it.
However, I have no financial knowledge whatsoever. I have some questions and I was wondering if you guys could help me!
1. What is APR? Does a 9.95% APR mean I pay 9.95% total interest on the money i borrow? Or is that compounded monthly, or yearly?
2. What is the best place to get a small loan for? I don’t have any collateral, except my car a 2000 model small japanese car. I’m guessing I am too young to have a credit history. My parents pay for everything, and they give me about $5000 to spend on rent and other things every 3 to 4 months, so I could use this to pay for my surgery over time. I don’t really have an income, I am a college student. I suppose I could convince a loan company to give me money if I could make a downpayment, so this probably would be the best way for me to go.
I am guessing I need at most $10,000. Orthodontics and then eventual jaw surgery.
Please help me.

what are pros and cons of orthodontics

I Am Thinking About Getting Braces Again, But I Am An Adult Now And Have A Few Questions About The Process.?

When I was younger I had braces, but regretfully I didn’t wear my retainer regularly and my wisdom teeth came in and crowded my teeth. My first question is about cost. I can never get a straight answer from an orthodontist without paying for a consult, so I would like to know how much it costs these days to get braces and what a typical payment plan looks like. The second is about pain, I remember it being very painful when I was younger and I’ve heard several people saying it is even more so when you are an adult, is this true? I would also like to know if there are any newer options. I’ve heard of invisalign, but heard it was much more expensive than braces, is that still true and how much is it these days? Are there any other options for those whose teeth aren’t mangled, but have a few on the top and bottom that are out of place and effect the persons bite? Thank you so much in advance for your help as it will be instrumental for me in deciding to take this leap.

Several Questions About Straightening My Teeth?

i had regular braces for three years to fix my laterals because they protruded up and out. by the time i got the braces off, all of my upper teeth slanted outwards, and my laterals still looked awkward because they’re rounded from grinding pre-braces. they’ve since gotten worse because i didn’t wear my retainer, it didn’t fit and was uncomfortably tight and made my gums bleed–but my orthodontist tightened it when i complain that it didn’t fit right. they look almost the same as they did before the braces, except now my two front teeth are slightly misaligned and my bottom teeth are crooked too, and i have an overbite. i really want to fix my teeth. I’m fifteen and they really affect my life and I’m just…unbelievable conscious about them.
so, one, will invisalign be able to fix this? because if braces aren’t necessary then it would be great if i don’t have to have to have metal mouth haha.
and two, should i get veneers on my laterals and then braces? because they’re rounded, i don’t think they’re ever going to look ‘right’.

Can Anyone Tell Me Anything About Dental Plus ?

My daughter needs braces. Our insurance does not cover this service. I read today that there is a program that costs about $20 a month and covers up to 50% of the cost of orthodontics. There are several participating orthos in my area. Has anyone else used this ? I am always leary of stuff like this, but braces are so expensive I’m looking at all my options.

Now my question is….see where it says “frequency and age limitations”? where it says something about being 25? I turned 25 on september 2nd, can I not use this insurance anymore for myself, its dental insurance through my employer so it wasnt explained very well, or can I use it maybe until right before I turn 26, meaning can I use it while I’m 25 or did it end as soon as I turned 25?

A Few Q’s About Braces?

I’ve never had braces, so I’m curious about a few things…
1. Does it hurt when you get them on? If so, what exactly hurts and what did the orthodontist do to make it hurt?
2. How come some people can’t really talk well for the first few days or so? When my friend got braces in 10th grade, for the first couple days after getting them, she talked funny lol. What makes it hard for people to talk right?
3. How exactly do braces work? How can they make a crooked smile and turn it into a perfect one? Like, what causes that?
4. What’s with the tiny rubber bands on them? What is their purpose?
5. So a friend of mine has braces. She lives in a different state, so it’s not like I can hang out with her in person. On her myspace, some of her new pictures show her without braces… and then, in other new pictures, she has them on… Why do they keep appearing and disappearing? Is it possible that she has removeable braces.? o_O If those even exist lol.
6. Does it hurt when you get them taken off? How bad does it hurt? Does your mouth feel weird for a while?
7. Do some people have to wear head-gear because their jaw isn’t aligned right or something?
8. If you have braces and you open-mouth kiss a person who also has braces, is it really possible to be stuck, like so many movies and shows have portrayed?
9. You’ve heard of “Invisalign”, right? Do you think that it’s more beneficial to use invisalign, because every few weeks or so, you’ll get a new mold for your teeth that will help shape your smile into what it should be? Or do you think braces are easier (however, they can’t be removed whenever you want, and they’re just wires, with no mold to shape your teeth with)?
10. I’ve heard people say that they can’t eat ice cream when they have their braces on; they have to wait till they’re off before they can have ice cream. Is it true that you shouldn’t eat ice cream? Why is it bad, I’m assuming it has something to do with the coldness of the ice cream?
11. Do you know of any adults who have (or had) braces, even though they’re like 30 + years old? Typically, teenagers are the ones that get braces. So it’s a bit startling to see an adult have them…do you know what I mean? What do you think about adults having braces? My best friends dad, when we were in like 2nd grade, maybe, her dad had braces. I remember thinking that it was kind of weird that he had them. haha.
OK, last question :p
12. Regarding porcelain veneers, how much does it cost to get them? All they are is just fake teeth, put in front of your old teeth, right? What happens if someone has a really crooked tooth? Will they still put the veneers on, or will they just leave the crooked tooth alone?

Is There Anything I Can Do About This Crooked Tooth?

I had braces 2 years ago. My teeth were perfect when I got them off. The retainer I got was fucked up when I got it and made my teeth more crooked. My orthodontist wouldn’t give me a new one so I smashed it so he would have to give me a new one. It fit. I lost it near the beginning of the new year. My front left tooth has gradually become noticeably crooked, kinda turned outward. I haven’t been able to go to the orthodontist yet but I’m getting a molding done for a retainer next Tuesday. Is there anything I can do to fix the crooked tooth? Maybe one or two invisalign retainers (how much do you think that would cost)? I can’t do braces again. Not because I am embarassed by them. Because that would be way too expensive to just fix one tooth (most of braces price are hardware, not how long you’ll have them) but invisalign is more about how many sets of aligner things you have to have right? Any suggestions for getting it straight?
