4 weeks ago i went to the orthodontist and he told me that my problem was just cosmetic and that i had the joice to wear braces. he said thet if i wanted to take a shot at it the best thing for me was to wear invisalign for 6 months but i dont know if i can wear the metal or ceramic ones instead.and i am stil thinking about it wether to take a shot or not. my teeth arent that crooked except for the mild crowdness on the bottom and a rotated canine on the top, but i would like a very straight smile. i also i think im experiencing tmj since one of the joints in my jaw started hurting really bad and i can feel my jaw popping and sticking out and it hurts and it also changed the way i bite. and these has been goin on for 2 weeks now.

My teeth are really tight in them because they’ve moved a little bit, not much though. what happened was, I started noticing that I was getting this tiny bit of a gap in between my front teeth so i thought if I started using my retainer again all the time my teeth would move back (it’s an invisalign thing thats molded)… anyways, I hate taking it out now to eat and stuff because it hurts since my teeth are moving back in place, but I was wondering how long will it take to actually move back so that I can just wear it at night?
and by the way, lesson learned: listen to your orthodontist.

I had appliances/braces in my mouth since 2nd grade to 7th grade. I HATED them. Once I was done, I told myself ill never get braces again. The orthodontist gave me a retainer to wear, I wore it more often than not (only at night though) but say I missed 2 days in a row, the retainer hurt to wear. No more did I want to wear the retainer becuase I hate pain in my mouth.
I’m a Senior in High School right now and I noticed my tooth to the left of my left front tooth has shifted upwards about a 4th of an inch. It has moved slightly ahead of the other teeth as well. (I know Im self-conscience)
I’ve been debating whether or not to seek to get braces or not. I think the deciding factor is the time it will take to be normal again.
What would be the estimated time i’ll be wearing braces to fix my problem?
I’ve already looked at Invisalign but I hate retainers! so I dont think I will go that route.
Thanks for your help

gah im soooo fustrated. im a sophomore in high school now and i need braces. i think i’ll look like a freak with them on and stuff and i dont know if i’ll have them off before my senior portrait or graduation. the orthodontist said 20-24 months. thinking about it make me want to cry. i want invisalign so bad but its wayy more expensive and people my family knows said they dont work so my family deff do not want that. theres no lingual braces (behind teeth) near where i live (norwich,CT if u can find one for me cuz i cant). im stuck with those retarded colored traditional braces. can it possibly look “good”?

My child will be needing braces soon, and with todays economy 4,000 – 8,000 is a great deal of money. Our dental plan does not cover Orthodontics, because they see it as cosmetic. Does anyone know of dental Insurance that helps to cover this cost? We are in NC, and BCBSNC has nothing.

I’ve never had braces, so I’m curious about a few things…
1. Does it hurt when you get them on? If so, what exactly hurts and what did the orthodontist do to make it hurt?
2. How come some people can’t really talk well for the first few days or so? When my friend got braces in 10th grade, for the first couple days after getting them, she talked funny lol. What makes it hard for people to talk right?
3. How exactly do braces work? How can they make a crooked smile and turn it into a perfect one? Like, what causes that?
4. What’s with the tiny rubber bands on them? What is their purpose?
5. So a friend of mine has braces. She lives in a different state, so it’s not like I can hang out with her in person. On her myspace, some of her new pictures show her without braces… and then, in other new pictures, she has them on… Why do they keep appearing and disappearing? Is it possible that she has removeable braces.? o_O If those even exist lol.
6. Does it hurt when you get them taken off? How bad does it hurt? Does your mouth feel weird for a while?
7. Do some people have to wear head-gear because their jaw isn’t aligned right or something?
8. If you have braces and you open-mouth kiss a person who also has braces, is it really possible to be stuck, like so many movies and shows have portrayed?
9. You’ve heard of “Invisalign”, right? Do you think that it’s more beneficial to use invisalign, because every few weeks or so, you’ll get a new mold for your teeth that will help shape your smile into what it should be? Or do you think braces are easier (however, they can’t be removed whenever you want, and they’re just wires, with no mold to shape your teeth with)?
10. I’ve heard people say that they can’t eat ice cream when they have their braces on; they have to wait till they’re off before they can have ice cream. Is it true that you shouldn’t eat ice cream? Why is it bad, I’m assuming it has something to do with the coldness of the ice cream?
11. Do you know of any adults who have (or had) braces, even though they’re like 30 + years old? Typically, teenagers are the ones that get braces. So it’s a bit startling to see an adult have them…do you know what I mean? What do you think about adults having braces? My best friends dad, when we were in like 2nd grade, maybe, her dad had braces. I remember thinking that it was kind of weird that he had them. haha.
OK, last question :p
12. Regarding porcelain veneers, how much does it cost to get them? All they are is just fake teeth, put in front of your old teeth, right? What happens if someone has a really crooked tooth? Will they still put the veneers on, or will they just leave the crooked tooth alone?

I want to know how invisible braces works. NOT INVISALIGN!! invisible braces that the brackets look clear and white like this…http://www.braces.org/knowmore/types/ima…
and if you have experienced this how does it feel like? does it hurt when the orthodontist puts them on? what does the orthodontist do before they put the braces? how much does it cost? What are these braces good for? (ex: crooked teeth, seperated, crowded, or not straight.)
i’m getting mines soon until all my baby teeth and molars are pulled out. oh and last question, how does it feel when the molars pulled out?

I’m getting braces in a few weeks. I’m 16 years old and i have the option of metal braces or clear braces (not invisalign) just like you only have the wire and the brackets are clear. has anyone had clear braces I dont know which one i want to get. The orthodontist said that the clear ones get stained if you eat like mustard and drink coffee and stuff and i do but he said you get the clear bands changed every 5-6 weeks so i dunno what do you all think?? have you had either of these? I dont care about having metal on my teeth i just want my teeth to be straight.

I currently reside in the Washington D.C area. Last week my son had a consultation with an orthodontist and the approximation price for ceramic braces was around $8,500. Would this be the average price that other orthodontist would estimate in the D.C. area?
Also, my son had a previous consultation in Virginia Beach. For $5,000 my son could have gotten the invisalign braces. I would imagine that invisalign would be more expencive than alternative braces. Am I correct? Would my son be better off getting ceramic braces in Virginia Beach?
Thanks

Orthodontics Defined Orthodontics may be the specialty of dentistry that's concerned using the study and treatment of malocclusion (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic therapy can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal using the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as "dentofacial orthopedics". Orthodontic therapy can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the general appearance of patients' teeth. Nevertheless, you will find orthodontists who work on reconstructing the whole face rather than focusing exclusively on teeth. Therapy is also frequently prescribed for practical reasons for example providing the patient having a functionally improved bite (occlusion).
