I grind my teeth. They are perfectly straight from years of orthodontics, but they are chipping in front and have grooves in them from grinding. I have a bite splint now, but my teeth just seem to be chipping even more.
I don’t want to pay for cosmetic procedures, like bonding or veneers, but I’m afraid if I don’t get something done, my teeth will continue to just chip away.
Is this a common thing covered by insurance if it’s not for cosmetic reasons?

I saw my dentist for the first time in 5 yrs(had no health insurance) and actually he wasn’t in so I saw his terrible dental hygenist she took x-rays/cleaned/examined..came out with a bunch of cavities(not sure of the # she said he might find more?) which doesn’t bother me, because genetically I’m pretty prone to them..She also mentioned I go back to my orthodontist(havent seen him in about 5 years also…) and get an expander on the bottom of my teeth if I could..(I have overcrowding since my wisdom teeth came in/not wearing my retainer..dammit.) Well here’s my issue, my dental insurance doesn’t cover orthodontics(wonderrrful..) and I’m not exactly rich(more like starving college student, whom mommy & daddy havent loaned me a penny since I was 13..) and I don’t know what to do..I’ve made the appointment with the orthodontist to get a permanent metal bracket on the back of my two front teeth put back on..(if he can, that happened almost 2 years ago)..and I don’t want to mention the expander and have him start doing things and not be able to pay my rent this month..What should I do? If I don’t get this expander, will my dentist just stop seeing me?

how much will a dental insurance home depot worker cover?
like the average.. for orthodontics
By Orthodontics Editor, on June 9th, 2009
Yes, many dental insurances will cover a part of your
orthodontic costs. Beware of the waiting periods for
any ortho work though. There are other plans that
will cover orthodontic work without waiting periods too,
see below.

My daughter has to have some orthodontic work done (a widening appliance to widen her top jaw, then a face mask to correct her underbite), and of course, the plan I have through work covers nothing. Are there plans out there that I can sign up for that will help substantially reduce the cost of this $2,700 procedure?

Orthodontics Defined Orthodontics may be the specialty of dentistry that's concerned using the study and treatment of malocclusion (improper bites), which may be a result of tooth irregularity, disproportionate jaw relationships, or both. Orthodontic therapy can focus on dental displacement only, or can deal using the control and modification of facial growth. In the latter case it is better defined as "dentofacial orthopedics". Orthodontic therapy can be carried out for purely aesthetic reasons with regards to improving the general appearance of patients' teeth. Nevertheless, you will find orthodontists who work on reconstructing the whole face rather than focusing exclusively on teeth. Therapy is also frequently prescribed for practical reasons for example providing the patient having a functionally improved bite (occlusion).
