I had appliances/braces in my mouth since 2nd grade to 7th grade. I HATED them. Once I was done, I told myself ill never get braces again. The orthodontist gave me a retainer to wear, I wore it more often than not (only at night though) but say I missed 2 days in a row, the retainer hurt to wear. No more did I want to wear the retainer becuase I hate pain in my mouth.
I’m a Senior in High School right now and I noticed my tooth to the left of my left front tooth has shifted upwards about a 4th of an inch. It has moved slightly ahead of the other teeth as well. (I know Im self-conscience)
I’ve been debating whether or not to seek to get braces or not. I think the deciding factor is the time it will take to be normal again.
What would be the estimated time i’ll be wearing braces to fix my problem?
I’ve already looked at Invisalign but I hate retainers! so I dont think I will go that route.
Thanks for your help

I recently got invisalign to act as a retainer, not braces, for my teeth. My orthodontist said all day every day for a year, then at night for the rest of my life. On the other hand, my friend, who has worse teeth than me, was told by a seperate orthodontist that she has to wear it for a week all day every day, then only at night. I trust my orthodontist however he hasnt always come up with the best ideas (something called a herbst appliance) or been straightforward with me. So what would be the average and also, what would be the bear minimum.

My 12-year old god-daughter is very self conscious about her smile, and wants to get Invisalign asap.
We have been told that all her secondary molars need to have erupted, and that this normally takes place between the ages of 11 and 13. We have not consulted a dentist/orthodontist yet, but want to get some sort of idea when she can start the process, as she is very anxious.

I am an adult with a minor overbite…bottom teeth are perfect. How much would Invisalign cost me, do they take insurance (most orthodontists) and how long would it take to see results?
I’m getting married in a year and half; will they be almost ready by then for pictures?

I went to the orthodontist for the first time on President’s Day. They were going to put in spacers, but they said they needed to call my mom’s insurance company and get a pre-authorization before we do anything.
What is it?
My mom called them yesterday, and they said it would be ready at the end of the week.
Why did it take so long to get one?
Thank you so much!

Here in UK -
5 years minimum at dental school. Then a further 2 years doing general professional training. (1 year practice, 6 months community and 6 months hospital). After that you need a further 2-3 years to do SpR training. You can then apply for your CSST and call yourself a consultant. If you simply wish to be a specialist practitioner, you can do that straight away although you should really do a lot of courses before then.

I am getting invisalign. The orthodontist said it would take about 1-1.5 years. I am wondering if the teeth are straightened much quicker than that, but treatment continues for minor adjustments/ keep teeth in their positions. In other words, will my teeth be straight within months?
