You can find more info from the American Association of Orthodontists, at http://www.braces.org/learn/smile-specialists.cfm. They host regional and national conferences where professionals hear lectures, share experiences and see new products at trade exhibits. There's also a new professional networking organization called Women in Orthodontics, at www.womeninortho.org.

You have to go to dental school first to become a dentist.
Then you go for specialization in that Specialty.
You can either do a shorter certification program or a Master's degree in the specialty.
Professional socialization can be done through dental societies / organizations.
As a practicing Orthodontist you can also arrange meetings / screenings for patients if you are talking about that type of socialization.
