I grind my teeth. They are perfectly straight from years of orthodontics, but they are chipping in front and have grooves in them from grinding. I have a bite splint now, but my teeth just seem to be chipping even more.
I don’t want to pay for cosmetic procedures, like bonding or veneers, but I’m afraid if I don’t get something done, my teeth will continue to just chip away.
Is this a common thing covered by insurance if it’s not for cosmetic reasons?

The dental insurances usually pay for the least expensive procedures. Although, some insurances do pay for cosmetic veneers, if it can be proved, that a veneer is more appropriate treatment than any other procedure.
Basically it works like this:
tooth – veneer – this approach is cheaper than this one:
tooth – filling – root canal – post – crown – extraction – implant.
So, if this approach is presented to the insurance company they might pay for it (again, only if this procedure in the insurance’s policy).
Good Luck
It really depends on the specific plan you have with BCBS. Most likely if it’s not cosmetic the insurance company will pay part of it…again though, it depends on your plan. Get with your dentist and they can check it out for you. You can try also but it’s really better if they do since they would know the extent of what needs to be done and also all of the procedure and diagnosis codes that insurance companies use for billing purposes.
